Finding God in Everyday Life

Written by Kylene Wee

It has been over a year since I was baptised. When I think about faith, I often recall the “big moments” as worship services, prayer gatherings, church events that leave me deeply moved.

I’ve also learned that faith is lived in the in-betweens too: the morning commute, preparing meals, getting ready for a meeting, answering endless emails, or sitting through late-night conference calls.

It’s in these ordinary rhythms that I’ve started asking myself: Do I notice God here, too?

God in the Ordinary

The Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

He can be found in the patience required during traffic, in the quiet discipline of our work, and even in the laughter of friends or family gathered at the dinner table. He is present not only in the extraordinary, but in the ordinary.

One morning on the way to work, I realised how often I pause to acknowledge Him in the small things, thanking him for a sunrise, or for another day in life, and even on rushed mornings, it becomes a moment to ask for His strength. A frustrating task at work becomes a change to practice perseverance, and a meal shared with loved ones becomes a reminder of His provision.

1 Thessalonians 5:17–18  also reminds me, “Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” God doesn’t just strengthen my faith—He strengthens me, moment by moment. Whispering, “Lord, be with me” before a meeting, or “Thank You” when I see a sunset, turns small moments into sacred ones and each evening, ending the day with gratitude reshapes how I see my life, pointing me back to His faithfulness.

I do not view prayer as an event, but as a rhythm, woven into every part of my life. The sighs of exhaustion, the whispered “help me”, the laughter shared with loved ones – all of these can be lifted to Him in prayer and when I live with that awareness, the ordinary is not just a routine, it becomes a place of encounter, a special space I have with God.

As I find Him in the ordinary, Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us that “ and whatever you do, do it heartily, as the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance;for you serve the Lord Christ.” Each small act of patience, kindness, or gratitude becomes more than a prayer – it becomes worship.

Whenever life feels overwhelming for me, I remember that God is with me, in every season. In moments of anxiety, when the weight of responsibility feels heavy, His word becomes my anchor.  He promises us in John 14:27, “ Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

This peace constantly reminds me of His presence, a peace that steadies me when life shakes me, calms my fears when the future feels uncertain. It is a gentle nudge – when I take the next small step forward, He goes before me and when I feel weak, His peace fills the spaces where my strength runs out.

So, how do you find Him in your ordinary?
