Building with Faith when nothing feels certain

Written by Kylene Wee.

Before I continue, I must admit, starting my own business was the last thing on my mind. If you asked anyone to describe me, they’d probably laugh and say, “No way — you could never!”

I was never the type to plan five years ahead or chase big entrepreneurial dreams.

So what made me want to start my own business? Who pushed me to take this leap?

God. I knew that He was with me and He still is.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Knowing that God is with you doesn’t mean the path is clear. Sometimes, it means stepping into the fog, trusting that His hand is steady even when yours isn’t.

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” – Psalm 119:105

Faith doesn’t erase fear — it gives it purpose.

I’ve learned that just having faith isn’t enough. God doesn’t help those who refuse to help themselves. I was terrified of everything that could go wrong. There were nights I couldn’t sleep, my mind racing through every “what if.”

What if I fail? What if people don’t believe in what I’m building? What if I completely misheard God?

Yet every small step I took, every plan, every prayer, every moment I showed up despite the doubt became a way for God to strengthen my faith. Faith isn’t about waiting for every answer; it’s about moving when the path isn’t visible, because you trust the One who walks ahead of you.

As I went along, I began to see how God places people in your path to guide you.

“Two are better than one, Because they have good reward for labour. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Brethren became my unexpected source of wisdom and strength. They prayed for me, asked thoughtful questions, and even gave honest feedback about the business itself — not to criticize, but to help refine the vision.

Through conversation and messages of encouragement in the middle of the week, they reminded me that this wasn’t just my venture, it was something that could reflect God’s goodness to others.

Their perspectives shaped the way I approached everything, from how I communicated my brand’s values to how I served my customers. What started as a fog of uncertainty slowly began to clear, replaced by a sense of peace that only God could orchestrate through His people.

It was through God and the people He placed around me that I found the confidence to take each step forward. Even when tasks like writing business plans, registering names, or negotiating with suppliers felt terrifying and uncertain, their prayers and encouragement carried me through.

Their support, combined with faith, gave me the strength to keep going. Each time I chose to move forward despite the doubt, I caught glimpses of God’s faithfulness, a timely opportunity, a word of wisdom, or a quiet peace that settled in my heart after prayer.

Faith, I’ve come to learn, is a partnership. God doesn’t expect perfection, but He expects participation. You bring your effort; He brings the outcome and somewhere along the way, I realised that this business may not just be about sustainability or success in the conventional sense. It may be an experience God is using to shape me to stretch my faith, refine my character, and prepare me for what lies ahead.

Honestly, I don’t know yet how long this business will last or what form it will ultimately take, but there is a quiet peace in knowing that even if the outcome is uncertain, the purpose is not. This feels okay — because He is with me.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Starting this venture has stretched me in ways I never imagined. It forced me to face my fears, my pride, and my impatience. I used to think faith meant waiting for signs, but now I know faith means moving before you see them.

If you’re standing on the edge of something new, uncertain, scared, and overwhelmed, remember this: faith doesn’t make things easy, but it makes them possible.

Step into the fog, even if your hands are trembling, because the God who called you into it will not abandon you in it.
